WhatsApp is currently facing an exodus of users where after they announced changes to their privacy policy, many started to seek out alternatives. Telegram has long been one of those alternatives, but the privacy changes to WhatsApp only served to boost its popularity amongst users.

That being said, what about all your old chats? It would be a shame if some of those chats were deleted, but the good news is that Telegram could help you deal with that. A report from 9to5Mac noted that Telegram recently received an update in which the update introduced a new import tool.

What this does is that users can import chats from other messaging apps (assuming the app allows users to export chats). This means that your chat history with friends and family won’t be lost and you won’t have to start from scratch, which could be one of the main reasons why people are hesitant to leave WhatsApp in spite of everything.

However, 9to5Mac noted that the update was quickly followed up by another update in which the feature was then removed. This suggests that maybe the import feature isn’t quite ready for prime time yet, but it’s good to see that this is something Telegram users can look forward to in the future.
