Apple and Facebook don’t exactly have the best relationship at the moment. Facebook, over the years, has come under fire for its data collection practices. Apple, on the other hand, has been doing everything they can to protect its users’ privacy, which is pretty much at odds with Facebook.

So much so that both CEOs have had not-so-nice things to say about each other’s companies. However, a report from The Wall Street Journal has revealed that back in 2018, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg wasn’t too thrilled with Tim Cook’s (Apple’s CEO) comments on Facebook during a national TV show where Cook said that Apple would have never found itself in the position that Facebook was in at that time.

The report claims the Zuckerberg thought Cook’s comments were “extremely glib” and “not at all aligned with the truth”, to the point where he told his team that they needed to “inflict pain” on Apple. While we’re not sure what exactly he had planned, the report suggested that Facebook’s lawyers and communications executives discussed the idea of bringing up antitrust concerns about Facebook through lobbying groups, regulators, or even filing an antitrust lawsuit themselves.

That being said, it is possible that Facebook might have gotten their way, or at least in part. This is because right now, Apple and Epic’s legal battle against each other has opened the door to more questions about Apple and their App Store practices.
