It has been rumored that Samsung could be launching a couple of new foldable phones this year, one of which is the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the successor to last year’s model. We expect that it will come with the bells and whistles and various upgrades, but a worrying rumor suggests that the phone won’t be 100% upgrades.

This is according to a tweet by @chunvn8888 who claims that the cover display of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the display when the phone is folded shut, will be of the 5.4-inch variety. This is actually a downgrade because with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, the cover display is sized at 6.2-inches, meaning that Samsung is shrinking the cover display by nearly an entire inch, which is quite a lot.

It is unclear why Samsung would downgrade the cover display to make it smaller. It is possible that maybe Samsung is downgrading the display to make it more affordable. After all, the company’s foldable phones aren’t exactly what many would consider cheap, so by cutting some costs, they could bring it down to a more reasonable price level.

However, given that the size of the phone is more or less the same as its predecessor, having a 5.4-inch cover display could look weird with the massive bezels surrounding it. We’re not sure how much stock we should put in this rumor, so until we get the official word, take this one with a healthy dose of salt.
