Square Enix is a company many know for its games such as the Final Fantasy franchise and several other popular JRPGs. They have been around for a long time and have maintained their independence, at least to a certain degree, although a recent report from Bloomberg Japan about them looking to potentially sell themselves has forced them to come forward to deny it.

The report had initially claimed that Square Enix was apparently in talks with numerous “interested parties” with regards to a potential sale. However, like we said, Square Enix has since denied those claims by publishing a statement of their own.

According to the statement, “Bloomberg has reported today that there is interest from several buyers to acquire Square Enix. However, this report is not based on any announcement by Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. We do not consider selling off the company or any part of its businesses, nor have we received any offer from any third party to acquire the company or any part of its businesses.”

As to how these rumors came about, that’s anyone’s guess. While it is possible that the report was right, some analysts have speculated that this could be the banks trying to drum up business, especially on the back of Square Enix’s failed Avengers video game. Either way, with Square Enix’s official statement, we guess we can put this rumor to rest for now.
