The way iOS deals with notifications is basically whenever a notification comes in, you’ll be alerted to it unless you disable it. For some apps, such as Spark, it tries to be smarter about notifications where it will only notify you when you have emails it thinks are important to you as opposed to every single email.

However, with iOS 15, Apple will try to take that concept and apply it system wide. By leveraging the use of artificial intelligence, Apple will try to make notifications smarter by arranging them by priority. This means that apps you usually tend to use quite often like messengers or email might be surfaced to the top versus apps that you don’t really deal with on a day-to-day basis.

In addition, Apple has also redesigned notifications where according to the company, “Notifications have been redesigned, adding contact photos for people and larger icons for apps that make them even easier to identify. To help reduce distraction, a new notification summary collects non-time-critical notifications for delivery at a more opportune time, such as in the morning and evening.”

While these aren’t exactly drastic overhauls to the iOS notification system, it is an improvement. We don’t know how they will fare in real life usage so we’ll have to wait until later this fall where the update will be released.
