In the past, upgrading to major versions of operating systems involved money, where users had to decide if the new features are worth paying money for. However, it seems that Microsoft will be taking a page out of Apple’s playbook because it looks like Windows 11 will be a free upgrade for those coming from Windows 10.

So, how do you know if your PC is eligible for the free upgrade? Basically your PC should be running a genuine copy of Windows 10 for starters, and secondly you will also need to meet the minimum hardware requirements. This includes a 64-bit CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage.

These are actually pretty low requirements and if you bought a computer in the last few years, there’s almost a guarantee that you should be eligible for the upgrade. For those who want to check, you can download Microsoft’s PC Health Check app which will run a diagnostics on your computer to determine if it is eligible for the upgrade.

According to Microsoft, Windows 11 is expected to roll out later this year during the holiday season and continue into 2022, so if your PC is eligible, then this might be an upgrade worth keeping an eye out for.
