Earlier this year, Apple announced a refresh of the iPad Pro lineup where they gave it a new mini LED display. It has since been rumored that the MacBook Pro refresh will do the same, and there have even been suggestions that the rumored iPad mini refresh could be given the same treatment.

Now according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he claims that Apple is expected to bring the display technology to the MacBook Air as well, but don’t expect it so soon. According to Kuo, he claims that the MacBook Air refresh with mini LED technology is only expected to arrive in the middle of 2022.

While Kuo is usually quite spot on with his predictions, mid-year seems a bit odd. This is because mid-year is when WWDC is held and Apple generally doesn’t announce new hardware then. If anything, new Mac hardware would be reserved for the first quarter of the year or towards the end of the year.

That being said, while the timing might be a bit suspect, the idea of the MacBook Air getting the mini LED treatment isn’t too surprising. Apple is trying to move away from LCD so it was only a matter of time before they shifted to either OLED or mini LED. An earlier rumor had also claimed that the new MacBook Air could see a redesign and could also be powered by the M2 chipset.
