For MacBook Pro would-be customers who have been holding out for the rumored redesigned models, you might be interested to learn that according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he claims that those laptops are on track for a launch later this year, and that one of the changes we can expect would be the use of mini LED displays.

Right now, the entire MacBook lineup relies on LCD. It has been that way for quite a long time, but Kuo claims that Apple will introduce new 14-inch and 16-inch models later this year that would use mini LEDs. This would result in displays that are richer in color and can display deeper blacks, perfect for watching movies and playing games.

If the report is accurate, it would also make the MacBook Pros the first amongst Apple’s Mac series that uses mini LED technology. Apple actually introduced the display technology to its 12.9-inch iPad Pro earlier this year, so we can’t say it’s too surprising that Apple would want to expand on its uses to more devices beyond the iPad.

The company is expected to use both OLED and mini LEDs across its product range. For example, the iPhones currently use OLEDs, and we have heard that part of the iPad lineup in 2022 could also make the switch to OLED. In any case, we’ll have to wait and see if the rumors are true, so until then take it with a grain of salt.
