As part of the update to Google Workspace, it seems that in the future, Gmail users will soon be able to ring each other on Google Meet, except that it can be done within the Gmail app itself and not the Meet app. This will make it easier for users to take part in calls and make them easier to be reached.
According to Google, “Google Meet calling is a seamless experience of initiating a video or audio call between one or more participants, complementing more structured, scheduled video meetings. Our intention is to bring Meet calling to all the natural endpoints in Workspace where you’d initiate an ad-hoc call including chats, people cards, and Spaces, but this will come first to one-to-one chats within the Gmail mobile app.”
Google has already integrated Chat into Gmail, so we can’t say we’re surprised that Meet integrations are next. The changes are expected to begin rolling out to enterprise customers in the coming weeks, so it might be worth keeping an eye out for.
