Like most smartphone companies, Google offers a guarantee in which its phones will be updated and maintained for at least a set number of years, and anything after that will be left to the company’s discretion.

In the case of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the official support for the phones actually came to an end in October 2021, but for those still holding on to their devices, you’re in luck because Google has told 9to5Google that they are actually planning a final update for the Pixel 3 series that should arrive in the first quarter of 2022.

Keep in mind that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are eligible for the Android 12 update, which means that the update Google is talking about obviously won’t be Android 13. Instead, 9to5Google speculates that the update Google will issue in Q1 2022 for the Pixel 3 series will be about bug fixes and other security improvements, so don’t expect anything major.

The Pixel 3 series was officially released back in 2018 which means that Google has supported it for the past three years, which is pretty standard as far as Android phones are concerned. It is highly unlikely that the phone will receive the official Android 13 update, but if you don’t plan on upgrading anytime soon, you could always keep an eye out for unofficial Android 13 custom ROMs developed by the community.
