If the rumors are to be believed, in 2022 Apple may no longer be launching the iPhone mini series. This means that if you wanted an low-cost iPhone, or at least relatively low-cost, then the iPhone SE series would be your best bet, and according to the latest reports, the next-gen iPhone SE is expected to launch in Q1 2022.

This is according to research firm TrendForce who believes that Apple might announce a new iPhone SE in the first quarter of 2022. The last time Apple updated the iPhone SE was in 2020 where it launched in April. Apple skipped a new model for 2021, so it makes sense that 2022 could be a likely candidate for the next model in the lineup.

According to the TrendForce report, “In terms of product development, Apple is staying with the plan to release its third-generation iPhone SE in 1Q22 and four models under a new series in 2H22. The third-generation iPhone SE is expected to be a major instrument in helping Apple establish a presence in the market segment for mid-range 5G smartphones. Its production volume for 2022 is forecasted to reach 25-30 million units.”

As per the rumors, the next-gen iPhone SE could support 5G which means that for those who want a 5G iPhone but don’t want to pay for the flagship series, this could be a good alternative. The design of the phone is expected to continue drawing inspiration from the iPhone 8 and will feature a 4.7-inch display and Touch ID. The main draw is also said to be the inclusion of 5G and a faster chipset.
