While Apple’s iPhones, AirPods, and the Apple Watch support wireless charging, Apple’s iPads have been left off that list. To be fair, it’s not like there’s a lot of demand for wireless charging tablets to begin with, but perhaps that could change next year with an iPad Pro with wireless charging support.
This is according to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter in which he reiterates claims that Apple could launch a new iPad Pro that will not only feature a new design, but will also support wireless charging.
It was actually reported earlier this year that the new iPad Pro could support wireless charging and reverse charging, meaning that it will be able to recharge other devices wirelessly as well. Given that the iPad typically has a bigger battery, we suppose it could be used to charge other Apple devices like the iPhone and AirPods.
This wouldn’t be the first time that we’ve heard about reverse wireless charging. FCC filings for the iPhone 12 have suggested that the phone could in theory support the feature, although it was never made a reality. In any case, this redesigned iPad Pro is scheduled for 2022, possibly in the early part of the year, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for it.
