Companies trying to adopt and integrate NFTs into their products and services are becoming pretty common these days, but it seems that not all attempts are well-received. In fact, Team17 recently announced their plans to introduce NFTs to Worms in their “MetaWorms” NFT project, but it looks like those plans have since been killed.

For those unfamiliar, Team17 is a developer and publisher probably best known for their Worms franchise of games that some of you might recall playing back in the late 1990s. It appeared that the company was keen on taking their games to the next level by adopting NFTs, but it looks like massive backlash from their employees, community, and even development partners forced them to cancel those plans.

Apparently it got so bad that some of their development partners announced that they will not work with the company in the future if they were to head down that path. Team17 has since announced that they will be putting an end to that project after listening to the community and the feedback, all of which was decided in about 48 hours after they first announced it.

It’s interesting that Team17 tried to head down this path. Ubisoft had also attempted to introduce NFTs to its games but it turned out to be a bit of a failure. In the meantime, while NFTs might not be so popular amongst games yet (play-to-earn games notwithstanding), they are gaining popularity amongst collectors.
