At Apple’s March 8 event, the company took the wraps off a brand new computer in the form of the Mac Studio. In the process, it also seems that Apple has discontinued the 27-inch Intel-based iMac as the computer is no longer listed on Apple’s website.

While the Mac Studio is indeed a very impressive computer that features Apple’s UltraFusion technology that essentially interconnects two M1 Max chipsets together, it will still require that users equip their own displays with it, meaning those who want an AIO desktop with a smaller footprint are out of luck.

We have heard rumors that Apple could be planning a new Apple Silicon iMac that could replace the 27-inch model, but according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, that computer has apparently been delayed to 2023. This means that Apple users who want an AIO have to either buy the smaller 24-inch iMac that was introduced last year, or try their luck at an Apple Store or third-party retailers to pick up any remaining 27-inch iMacs that might still be in stock.

We wouldn’t necessarily recommend this simply because with Apple shifting towards Apple Silicon, it doesn’t make sense for Mac users to purchase an Intel model right now. Plus, the last refresh was in 2020 which means that it is kind of outdated by today’s standards.
