Exciting news for WhatsApp users just surfaced, as it appears that the popular instant messenger is currently testing a new artificial intelligence feature designed to help users manage high volumes of notifications. Discovered by WABetaInfo in the latest Android beta version (v2.21.12), this tool leverages Meta AI to analyze and summarize multiple unread conversations simultaneously. This marks an evolution from the current AI summarization tool, which is limited to processing one chat at a time.
The feature is specifically tailored for users who find themselves overwhelmed by active group chats; by applying the “unread conversations” filter, users can trigger a single command that prompts the AI to scan recent messages across various threads. The system then generates a concise synthesis of the discussions, allowing users to catch up on key points without manually scrolling through every text or listening to every audio clip.

To address concerns regarding data privacy, Meta has integrated Private Processing technology. This framework ensures that the AI analysis occurs within a secure environment, preventing Meta or WhatsApp from accessing the original content of the messages or the resulting summaries. Furthermore, the feature is opt-in; it is disabled by default, and users must manually authorize the AI to process their chats.
New possible features on the way
While the code for multiple-chat summarization is present in the beta build, it has not yet been released to public beta testers. In addition to this AI tool, WhatsApp is reportedly working on several other updates, including:
-
Automatic translation for real-time conversations.
-
The ability to auto-delete messages immediately after they are read.
-
“Close Friends” lists and personalized categories using emojis.
-
Batch settings to apply configurations to multiple groups at once.
Some of these advanced features may eventually be exclusive to WhatsApp Premium subscribers as Meta seeks to monetize the platform. However, the company maintains that core security and reliability updates will remain available to all users.
