When we met at an in-person presentation in Seoul, Crosshub made a simple argument: an approval code can show that somebody entered a code, but it cannot necessarily prove who approved a payment, or whether that person understood what they were authorizing. Its answer is V-Pay, a proposed voice-based step-up check for payments.

Voice interfaces are spreading into cars, smart glasses, kiosks, and we’re expecting a new wave of AI assistants. The interesting part of Crosshub’s pitch is not that it wants people to pay by voice. It wants voice to serve as a transaction-specific confirmation layer to increase security.

We previously covered Crosshub’s B-Pay, the company’s effort to combine IDBlock identity verification with cross-border payments. The company now frames V-Pay and Smart ID as extensions of that larger identity-and-payment infrastructure. Crosshub’s IDBlock/B-Pay work also won a CES 2026 Best of Innovation award in FinTech.

V-Pay is not meant to be another Siri-like assistant that hears a command and executes it. Instead, Crosshub says the service would generate a one-time phrase that includes the payment context. The user reads it aloud; the system checks the phrase and compares voice characteristics with enrolled voice features. A risk engine would also consider context such as an unusual amount, device, or location.

A $5 coffee purchase made every Monday afternoon is a very different event from a sudden $4,000 luxury purchase on another continent. Card issuers already use many signals to flag this kind of anomaly. Crosshub’s pitch is to add a spoken confirmation at the moment when the existing system decides that one more check is warranted.

When I asked where the innovation sits, the team emphasized identity verification rather than merely detecting an unusual payment. Crosshub says V-Pay can compare speech patterns such as frequency, intonation, and pronunciation. Its material also says the system is designed to avoid storing raw voice recordings.

The company’s strong idea is the dynamic phrase. A transaction-specific prompt should make a basic replay attack less useful because an old recording will not match the next purchase. However, the deepfake problem is real. NIST guidance for remote biometric checks calls for presentation-attack detection, tested performance, and controls that help establish that the biometric sample came from a genuine sensor; it also notes that such measures do not address every forged-media scenario. We’ll see how Crosshub’s technology fares against deepfakes as more testing and certifications happen. Until then, readers should view the product as an interesting and promising security design. The company says its MVP is complete and that it plans to pursue proof-of-concept work with financial institutions and payment providers.

A second, more unusual business angle: Crosshub is exploring spoken advertising: a brand or promotion could become part of the phrase a user needs to repeat. At the presentation, the team described this as optional rather than mandatory. It is not difficult for me to see the huge potential appeal for advertisers if users are asked to say a brand name immediately before a purchase.

Smart ID is the other half of Crosshub’s current presentation. This one targets universities single-sign-on (SSO), where access rights, academic records, dormitories, libraries, attendance systems, and campus payments often sit in different databases. Crosshub wants a mobile credential to become a single front door for those services.

The company says it has MOUs for digital student ID adoption with the University of Danang’s University of Science and Education, Vietnam National University Hanoi, and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. Its proposed system would connect campus access and administration with local payment services, while it describes broader Vietnam, ASEAN, smart-building, and smart-city expansion as plans rather than current deployments. The value is straightforward: students forget plastic cards, graduate and lose access to records, and repeatedly authenticate themselves across separate systems. A well-run digital ID can reduce that friction. Crosshub’s own interview made clear, however, that Smart ID remains under development and that it is meant more for convenience than absolute high-security. Someone could loan their phones to give another person access to the library, just like loaning a passcard.
