Capcom has outlined a forward-looking strategy that extends beyond releasing game remakes, focusing heavily on embedding artificial intelligence into its development pipeline. The Japanese publisher aims to transform its proprietary RE Engine into a modernized platform fully equipped to leverage advanced AI technology.

During the Capcom Open Conference, lead programmer Satoshi Ishida presented details on the REX Project, an initiative designed to integrate machine intelligence directly into active production workflows. According to Ishida, this shift addresses significant operational bottlenecks driven by the expanding scale of modern video games and the mounting complexity of development architecture. The engine currently supports over 2,000 developers worldwide, creating an urgent need for multi-language support, greater workflow accessibility, and streamlined systems to handle diverse file formats and build iterations.

To tackle these hurdles, Capcom showcased several technical upgrades. Among them is RE:Log, an internal system engineered to automatically adjust interface and text languages according to the specific profile of the developer using the software. In addition, the studio is introducing new data processing standards alongside refined user interfaces to ease multi-team collaboration.

Another central component is RE:Flows, a specialized automation tool designed to translate visual node graphs and visual scripts into standardized, clean source code. This feature represents a core milestone in Capcom’s roadmap for applied generativesystems and smart automation within the game engine.

Addressing industry-wide discussions regarding the ethics and risks of algorithmic automation, Capcom emphasized that its primary goal is not replacing human staff. Instead, the initiative focuses on automating routine, repetitive tasks to reduce technical overhead and optimize overall pipeline efficiency. By delegating mechanical scripting, localization formatting, and baseline maintenance to automated tools, the studio aims to allow developers to dedicate greater attention to high-level creative design, storytelling, and core gameplay mechanics. The studio continues testing these frameworks across internal projects.
