If you live in a country with lots of toll roads, like yours truly, you probably already know how a road trip’s cost can become outrageously expensive. Thanks to Google Maps, toll can be avoided. In this tutorial, we will be showing you how to avoid toll roads using Google Maps, both on desktop and mobile. 

How to avoid toll roads in Google Maps for desktop

  1. Open the Google Maps website
  2. Type in the destination
  3. Click on ‘Options’
  4. In the ‘Avoid’ column, select ‘Tolls’
  5. The new route will be automatically displayed

How to avoid toll roads in Google Maps for mobile

  1. Open the Google Maps app on your smartphone or tablet
  2. Type in the destination
  3. Tap ‘Directions’
  4. Tap on the three-dot menu located in the top right-hand corner
  5. Select ‘Route options’
  6. Tap on ‘Avoid tolls’
  7. Tap on ‘Done’
  8. The new route will be automatically shown on your device’s display
