You would think that technologies such as augmented or virtual reality can’t really be utilized by those who might be visually impaired. However it seems that researchers at Caltech are proving us wrong by taking advantage of augmented reality (AR), a wearable headset like the Microsoft HoloLens, and software that helps the blind “see”.
Microsoft will be supplying prototypes for augmented reality systems to the U.S. Army which the military branch will use for training and combat missions. The contract is reportedly worth $480 million and will lead to Microsoft supplying as many as 100,000 HoloLens augmented reality headsets to the army.
It has been a while since Microsoft launched an updated model of its HoloLens mixed reality headset and if a new report is to be believed, the company might do that early next year. The report claims that Microsoft is developing a next-generation HoloLens headset that it’s likely going to release in the first quarter of 2019. The project is reportedly being referred to “Sydney” inside the company.

Microsoft introduced its HoloLens augmented reality headset about a year back. Since it’s a first-generation product, it’s not really meant for the average joe. Microsoft made it clear from the get go that this product is meant for developers and businesses. With that being said, the company has revealed that Microsoft HoloLens sales aren’t that high.
