Smartphones cameras are still at their core cameras. This means that the rules of photography and composition all still apply to it, and if used correctly, it can achieve some pretty stunning photos. It’s just like how you could give an amateur a $10,000 Leica camera and lens but still walk away with a subpar image.
It has been a while since we last heard from LG and their “Friends” modular ecosystem, but over at Motorola, the company is still pushing to make modular phones more mainstream by announcing two new Moto Mods: a Mophie battery pack and an Incipio car dock, both of which will be usable by the Moto Z handsets.
Earlier this year, Lenovo launched the PHAB 2 Pro, the world’s first smartphone to utilize Google’s Project Tango technology. However with it being the only smartphone in the world to feature this tech, it also means that users don’t really have a lot of choice when it comes to other aspects of the phone, such as hardware specs, features, design, and so on.
If you own either the Moto Z or the Moto Z Force, you’ll be pleased to learn that Motorola has announced on its blog that starting this week, the Android 7.0 Nougat update will be making its way onto both handsets. From what we can tell it seems to be a global rollout so regardless of where you are, you should be able to expect the update soon.
With Google more or less shelving Project Ara, we really have to wonder what this means as far as modular phones are concerned. After all if one of the biggest tech companies in the world with all their resources and experts can’t get modular phones to work, who can? However if you are still keen on such devices, there is always Motorola and their Moto Mods.
If you’re the sort of person who hates to be tied down to any particular carrier or a contract, then purchasing an unlocked phone is probably the best idea. What this means is that you get to hop around different carriers if you’re so inclined, or alternatively if you tend to travel overseas, you’ll be able to use your phone with a local carrier.
So we know that Google’s latest build of Android, which is Android 7.0 Nougat, has been out for a while now. Unfortunately the update process is very different compared to iOS where Apple is in control of the entire process. In Android’s case, OEMs will need to update their phones themselves, and in some instances, carriers need to give their approval too.
If you had your eyes on the Moto Z or the Moto Z Play and you’d rather not buy them through a carrier, maybe you don’t like to be tied down to contracts, or you just like the freedom, you’ll be pleased to learn that both Amazon and Best Buy are currently accepting pre-orders for both handsets.
It’s not uncommon to see companies take jabs at each other in their ads. Samsung regularly does this and so does Microsoft. We’re now seeing Lenovo indulge in this as well, and the company has actually tried to kill two proverbial birds with one stone. Its latest newspaper ad takes a jab at both the iPhone 7 and the Galaxy Note 7 by advising people to “skip the sevens.”
One of the highlights of the Moto Z lineup would be its support for Moto Mods, which are basically modular accessories for the handset that allows users to change up certain features of their phone. One of those modules is the JBL SoundBoost mod that basically improves upon the sound quality of your phone.
We have been hearing a bit about the Moto Z Play for a while now, and now thanks to the folks at TechDroider, they are claiming that a Moto Z Play DROID is in the works. In case you’re wondering what the difference is, essentially there isn’t any, save for the fact that the DROID version will be a Verizon exclusive.
When the Moto Z and its Moto Mods were announced, there were some modules that were “missing”. We say “missing” because prior to the official announcement, there were some leaks and one of those leaks showed a camera Moto Mod that was never announced, although earlier this month a photo surfaced which showed a Hasselblad-made camera module.
The Moto Z Play is a smartphone that we have been hearing about for a while already. In fact not too long ago, photos of the alleged handset made their way online. Now thanks to newly leaked photos, we are getting another look at the upcoming phone, except that this time it is pictured in white.
One of the ways Motorola has tried to set themselves apart from the competition would be by offering up customization for their phones. Sure, other companies offered up different colors, but this was mostly fixed meaning that once you’ve chosen, you can’t really change your mind, which is how Motorola’s phones differ with the Moto Maker feature.
