Over the past few years there have been a number of major changes at Nokia. The company diverted its attention from Symbian and MeeGo to focus exclusively on Windows Phone devices. It did end up clinching over 92 percent of the entire Windows Phone market, but the opted to sell its hardware division to Microsoft. Today the company has announced that its plan to kill support for Symbian and MeeGo […]
Nokia, who has been rolling out Windows Phone 8 smartphones for quite a while already (after all, technology does move along at a rather fast pace), has announced that they will no longer offer support for both Symbian and MeeGo operating systems from the end of this year onward. This should not come across as a surprise, especially when you consider how Intel themselves have stopped development for the MeeGo […]
We’ve known for a while that Nokia would eventually cease the production of Symbian-based devices in favor of concentrating on its Lumia lineup of Windows Phone devices, and according to The Financial Times, it looks like that end is nigh as Nokia will reportedly send its final shipments of Symbian handsets to retailers this summer. Prior to this point in time where smartphones are the norm, Nokia used to reign […]

I know that the Symbian operating system can be said to be in the same boat as RIM – they are both a dying breed. The thing is, there are still a fair number of people in developing countries that do not yet own a smartphone, although you can be quite sure that with each new phone purchase they make down the road, the chances of them picking up a […]

While developers out there are busy churning out apps for more popular platforms like iOS and Android, it looks like Symbian got a little productivity love today from Microsoft in the form of the Microsoft Office Mobile apps. Originally developed for Nokia’s series of Lumia Windows Phone devices, it looks like Microsoft has kept to their word last year when they announced that Microsoft Office Mobile would eventually make its […]

[MWC 2012] I got some hands-on time with the Nokia 808 Symbian smartphone, and of course, the first (and only) thing that I wanted to look at was the 41 Megapixel camera that can capture photos as high-res as 38 Megapixels (only in 4:3 ratio). The demo was extremely interesting as the effective Megapixels of the phone could be used in a couple of different ways. Basically you can choose […]

Well if you enjoyed the N8’s camera but you’re on the lookout for an upgrade, then the recently announced Nokia 808 PureView whose image sensor could rival some DSLR cameras could be the phone that you are looking for.
I still remember Microsoft’s motto of welcoming folks to the Social with their Zune, but that portable media player failed to take off in a big way, and did not even make a dent in Apple’s formidable armor in this area. Well, Nokia’s attempt at bringing the social elements around you to a phone is admirable, with the Symbian app known as Nokia Social being given a bump to hit […]
