Empire State Building set to go green

The Empire State Building has been quite the landmark in New York city for many decades already, and will continue to be for a long time to come, we believe. It seems that its owners, Malkin Holdings, will be turning it into an official green building with improvements to be introduced in due time. Having invested $13 million already this year into the building, they hope that the coming makeover will cut roughly 40% of all energy use, as well as save up to $4 million or so through the refitting of windows as well as using a furniture repositioning method in order to minimize energy use. The whole point to this exercise would be to prove that it is possible to go green without installing a single solar panel or a wind turbine, let alone a geothermal unit. Their goal? To cut to the Empire State Building’s carbon footprint by over 100,000 metric tonnes over a period of 15 years, which will be roughly be equal to removing 20,000 vehicles off the road.
