Toshiba announced Wipe technology for Toshiba Self-Encrypting Drive models

Are you paranoid about data security? Toshiba’s range of Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) models might just be able to fit you to a T, where it will work in tandem with Wipe Technology which includes a first of its kind feature in the world, where sensitive user data is securely erased whenever a system is powered-down or when a SED hard drive is taken out physically from a computer system. Apart from that, the feature can be used the other way round, erasing all user data prior to returning a leased system, as well as system disposal or re-purposing. Copier and Printer systems vendors are also encouraged to take advantage of Toshiba’s Wipe Technology in order to securely invalidate sensitive document image data through the automatic removal of the SED’s internal encryption key. Home users probably won’t have too much need for this, but enterprise setups will definitely want to look into Toshiba’s Wipe Technology. [Press Release]
