Apple Limits iPad USB Connection Kit Utility with iOS 4.2 Upgrade

The upgrade to iOS 4.2 on the iPad may have limited the features possible of the USB connection kit (sold as a set with the SD card adapter for $30) for Apple’s iPad tablet. With the update to the latest iOS version, it seems that the iPad will not give out enough power for a number of devices to work–only 20mA versus 100mA from before–so that USB keyboards, flash drives, speakers, and other USB peripherals that require power from the iPad will no longer work with the USB connection kit. Apple did not advertise support for these peripherals as the USB kit was intended to work only with digital cameras for digital picture transfer to the iPad, but users had luck with connecting other devices via the kit in the past under older versions of iOS for the tablet.
