Garry's Mod

The Microsoft Kinect is probably one of the most exciting game controllers ever invented and we see a new way to use it almost every week. One of the latest ways to make use of the Kinect controller is to control characters in a game mod of Valve’s Source engine called Garry’s Mod. In case you didn’t know, Source is the engine that powers games like Half-Life 2 and Left 4 Dead. A Kinect hobbyist managed to get the Kinect to recognize his skeletal data, and translated real life movements into in game characters, allowing him to interact with objects in the game like boxes and corpses. With technology available for us to play games in this manner, it’s only going to be a matter of time before major developers decide to apply these sorts of controls in their upcoming games, and we’ll see a whole new gaming experience in the near future. Hit the break to watch the video demo of Kinect in action, and head here to read more about the project.
