The Blackberry Playbook featured some pretty decent hardware when it first launched back in 2011, but unfortunately interest for the device did not seem to pick up and the tablet has since been relegated to a sales item where retailers are offering it on the cheap. That’s not to say that RIM has completely given up on the Playbook. In fact there have been several leaks (here and here) that indicated that the tablet could be in for a refresh with 4G on board. No word on when that will launch, but thanks to Anders Jeppsson, an employee at RIM, it looks like “something wonderful” for the Playbook will be happening later today.

Unfortunately if you were thinking of a hardware upgrade, that’s pretty much out of the question as Jeppsson has indicated that the “something wonderful” will be arriving in the App World. Not to mention considering that Jeppsson’s job at RIM is that of Head of Gaming, that narrows it down even more. Could it be Angry Birds Space that made a brief appearance on the Playbook before getting pulled? We guess we will have to wait and find out, so check back with us later for the details.
