Mozilla’s Firefox OS is based on HTML5 and JavaScript, it was initially dubbed as the Boot to Gecko project, before being formally announced as the company’s offering for the global smartphone market. Designed for low-end devices, a preview was shown back at Mobile World Congress on a Dreamfone running this new operating system. Reportedly the first two Firefox OS based smartphones are going on sale tomorrow, developed by a Spanish startup called Geeksphone, these two devices carry the Keon and Peak monikers.

Both Geeksphone and Mozilla have not yet officially commented on this. Apparently the Keon will carry a price tag of €91, which roughly translates in to $118. The Peak will reportedly go for €149, which is around $194. These prices are not final as VAT has not been included in them. Apparently Geeksphone will be able to start shipping both of these smartphones globally by the end of this week. Developers are the primary target of this manufacturer, as it wants to attract developers that are willing to make apps for this new platform. Firefox OS based devices from other manufacturers are expected to go on sale in June.
