Sony has been in the smartwatch game for quite some time now. Its third generation smartwatch is due in the near future and some expect that the company will unveil at IFA 2014, where it is also expected to show us the Xperia Z3 smartphone. A new rumor has surfaced today which claims to offer information about the Sony Smartwatch 3. Apparently it comes with wireless charging and even though Sony has said that it hasn’t closed the door on Android Wear, the device doesn’t run on Google’s new wearable platform.

Digi-Wo doesn’t offer any specifications of the Sony Smartwatch 3 but does say that its design will be a lot similar to its predecessor. Sony Smartwatch 2 has a square form factor and uses a transflective display, however the upcoming smartwatch’s display is claimed to have better resolution.

Android Wear has not been adopted for this particular device. There were rumors that Sony had no intention of making an Android Wear smartwatch but the company clarified that its not averse to the idea. Sony Smartwatch 3 is rumored to come with an improved user interface.

Last but not the least it has been claimed that the smartwatch would be able to work on its own without needing a paired mobile device. A built-in Wi-Fi module and wireless charging are also rumored. No official word from Sony as yet on this device but fortunately IFA 2014 isn’t that far off, so we’ll know for sure soon enough what Sony has in store for us.
