This coming fall, Google is touted to roll out Android TV, which so happens to be another version of its hugely popular mobile operating system that has been specially optimized to see action on Smart TVs as well as other set-top boxes. This particular platform is touted to roll out alongside Google’s Android L, where the latter will target both smartphones and tablets. Android TV is said to allow users to stream Internet video from sites such as YouTube and Netflix, in addition to music from the likes of iHeart Radio, TuneIn, and a slew of other apps which have been specially optimized for large displays. ASUS might be one of the first off the blocks with an Android TV device in the guise of the ASUS Nexus Player.
Why do we say so? Well, an unannounced ASUS Nexus Player has popped up over in the GFXBench results, where it is touted to arrive with a quad-core 1.8GHz Intel processor with PowerVR G6430 graphics, 1GB RAM, 6GB of internal memory, Wi-Fi connectivity and Android L in tow.
In fact, 23.7” and 31.9” display sizes were listed, where both of them will feature 1,920 x 1,080 pixel displays. It remains to be seen whether this will translate to a couple of different smart TVs, or it would simply mean that the ASUS Nexus Player will hook up to any compatible TV as long as there is a HDMI cable in tow. Only time will tell, so stay tuned!
