floating speakersSpeakers are something that is meant to be heard rather than be looked at, although there are some out there who want their speakers to not only sound good, but look good as well, which might explain why companies such as Bose and Bang & Olufsen pride themselves in their technology as well as their design.

However if you really wanted something different, then perhaps a company called ASWY which is based in Taipei might have something that could interest you. The folks at Engadget recently came across ASWY’s booth at IFA in Berlin. As you can see in the image above, the company is demonstrating a set of speakers which can apparently float.

Now we’re not sure if the floating does anything to the sound quality, but in terms of aesthetics it’s a pretty good idea. The speakers have been dubbed the Floating Bluetooth Speaker and will feature three watts of output, a five hour battery life, Bluetooth connectivity, and also a 3.5mm input in which users can connect their media devices if they want to skip the Bluetooth function.

The speakers can work even without the base, although it won’t be floating, and is expected to be priced at $149 and will be available this November. Interesting idea but what say you? Any takers?
