At IFA 2026, Sunseeker introduced its 2027 robotic lawn mower lineup, led by the S7 LiDAR Ultra AWD 3000. I also met with Sunseeker CEO Terry Ma, who explained its push to become a major consumer brand in robotic lawn care.
Sunseeker has manufactured outdoor power equipment for years, but Ma said the company began emphasizing its own brand two years ago. He estimates Sunseeker now holds about 15% of the global wire-free robotic mower market. Although I could not find public reports verifying the percentage, industry research lists Sunseeker among the major global manufacturers.
The company now operates in 40 countries, and Ma said it has 400+ R&D engineers and invests over 20% of revenue in R&D, a key factor in accelerating innovation in an ultra-competitive market.
Sunseeker says its retail network expanded from about 1,500 locations in 2025 to around 5,000 in 2026, with extensive in-person customer support and maintenance available through its network. That service infrastructure is a significant competitive advantage. For increasingly complex outdoor electronics, easy access to maintenance is crucial.
The S7 aligns perfectly with one of the biggest robotic-mower trends I saw at IFA 2026: the move toward 360-degree LiDAR. Earlier wire-free mowers typically relied on a local RTK antenna, while some newer antenna-free models still use network RTK corrections. LiDAR-first systems can map and navigate locally instead, simplifying installation and reducing dependence on satellite reception.
The flagship S7 LiDAR Ultra AWD 3000 targets lawns up to 3,000 m² and automatically maps the garden. Its AWD (All-Wheel Drive) system handles slopes up to 80% (about 39 degrees), while a 35 cm dual-disc cutting system covers larger areas efficiently.
Sunseeker’s MapOS creates what the company calls an industry-first 3D semantic map of the garden, while the mower can recognize more than 360 types of obstacles. An optional infrared camera detects body heat in darkness, specifically helping protect nocturnal animals such as hedgehogs — a standout feature. The S7’s Extension Hub accepts an optional EdgeZero trimmer head, designed to reach a claimed 0 cm from lawn boundaries.
According to CEO Terry Ma, Sunseeker pioneered true zero-centimeter edge trimming for robotic mowers before other brands followed. Indeed, based on the launches I could verify, Sunseeker was the first manufacturer to publicly preview a dedicated Zero-Edge Cutting system at Equip Expo in October 2025, before bringing the technology to the S7 LiDAR Ultra AWD 3000 as the EdgeZero trimmer shown at IFA 2026.
But the most impressive innovation I saw was a robotic arm attached through that same expansion interface. Instead of simply detecting an object and driving around it, the mower could pick it up and move it away. The arm is still a concept and is not part of its launch configuration. The S7 itself is expected in February 2027. Another mower at IFA demonstrated a similar arm, but it was only a prototype.
