vuzix-hereVuzix, one of the leading suppliers of video eyewear and smart glasses products where the consumer, commercial and entertainment markets are concerned, have just announced that it has signed up with HERE regarding a licensing agreement , where the latter happens to be a leader in mapping, navigation and location experiences. The gist of the agreement? In order to have Vuzix smart glasses incorporate maps and location platform services from HERE, having HERE function as the primary mapping services – specifically for the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses.

When using HERE on the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses, it will offer a versatile mapping and location services engine, which will deliver traditional 2D and first person heads up display capability. This would allow application developers to come up with advanced and fully integrated mapping in their M100 offerings.

HERE-enabled Apps on the M100 will also be able to offer a complete stand-alone experience, where among them include the ability to store map data locally on the device, as well as to use it offline for navigation, directions and search. You can also opt to download detailed maps so that you can use it with your M100 Smart Glasses, while Bluetooth integration with beacons and other short-range location devices in addition to GPS and network localization pave the way for a higher level of accuracy. Travelers would also be pleased to know that public transport maps and directions for over 800 cities across 40 plus countries will be available right in front of your eyes – without an Internet connection.
