whatsapp plusAccording to a report yesterday, WhatsApp had started to ban some of its users for using third-party clients such as WhatsApp+, a client for WhatsApp that offered more customization features. According to its developer, they were working on finding a way around the problem, although we noted at that time that a work around seemed unlikely as this was basically WhatsApp being unhappy at the app’s existence in general.

The bad news is that if you were really hoping that WhatsApp+ could continue to survive and find a way to co-exist with WhatsApp, you might be disappointed. According to Dr. Mounib Al Rifai of WhatsApp+, he wrote on his Google+ page that they had received a cease and desist letter from the developers of WhatsApp.

According to Rifai, “We have received a cease and desist letter from WhatsApp and we are obligated to remove all download links and unfortunately delete this community… Am really sorry for this but it’s out of our hands and WhatsApp has pushed us into a corner that we can’t escape this time.. It was a fun ride but it has come to an end..”

The app has since been pulled and further support for the app has ceased. If you were an avid user of the app, we guess you’d have to revert back to the regular WhatsApp if you wish to keep chatting with your friends and family members. In the meantime anyone else bummed out by this piece of news?
