Tesla is no longer the only company that’s going after customers who are willing to switch to an all electric car. Chevrolet recently announced its own contender, the Bolt, which promises a 200-mile range and has already entered production. A new report today claims that Ford is thinking along the same lines. The carmaker is expected to unveil an all electric car later this year which will be intended for the mass market and will offer range of more than 200 miles.

This won’t be Ford’s first foray in the electric car market. The company already has the Focus Electric but since its range is a little over 70 miles the vehicle won’t serve any greater purpose outside urban city centers.

The report from Automobile Magazine claims that Ford’s mass-market electric car is going to take on the Tesla Model 3 and Chevrolet Bolt, both of which cost under $40,000 and its offering might be similarly priced.

It is unclear at this point in time when Ford intends on launching this electric car. The report suggests that the announcement might be made at the LA Auto Show which takes place in November 2015.

Ford has neither confirmed nor denied the report but given the recent push from legacy carmakers towards this technology it would surprise no one when the company finally unveils this car.
