xiaomi tvLast week we reported that Xiaomi had teased that they would be announcing new TVs and sure enough they have. However the previous report suggested we might be able to look forward to two TVs – a FHD and a 4K TV, but it looks like the rumors were slightly off as Xiaomi has instead officially announced a 40-inch Full HD TV.

That being said given that there isn’t much 4K content available at the moment, perhaps getting a Full HD TV would be a better idea, unless you were looking to future proof yourself in which you could always look to other brands for your 4K needs. Moving on, in terms of specs the new Xiaomi Mi TV 2 will feature a 40-inch Full HD display. It is also a smart TV which means that it will run on Android.

The display panel is an LED panel made by Sharp with a 5,000:1 contrast ratio. Under the hood, the Mi TV 2 will be powered by a Cortex-A9 quad-core CPU clocked at 1.4GHz. There will be 1.5GB of RAM accompanying it, 8GB of onboard storage, H.265 10-bit hardware decoding that allows users to watch H.265, H.264, MPEG4, and REAL video formats, along with the usual RM, FLV, MOV, AVI, MKV, TS, and MP4.

Xiaomi has also announced that the TV will retail for 2,000 CNY which is roughly $320. This is quite a steal but unfortunately it does not look like the company has plans to sell the Mi TV 2 in the US for now.
