There is some good news for you today if you happen to own the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition. Google’s latest Lollipop update is now heading to your device. The company has released Android 5.1 for the HTC One M8 GPE units. It was only a couple of weeks ago when Android 5.1 was first released. As is the case with new Android updates it was first rolled out to Nexus smartphones and tablets.

This is where the benefit of a Google Play Edition unit comes in. After a new update has been released to Nexus devices, Google Play Edition units are next in line.

Even though most OEMs are currently busy with rolling out Android 5.0.x for their devices, the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition joins the elite group of devices that are currently rocking the latest version of Android.

Coming in at just under 250 MB today’s update brings some improvements and tweaks, aside from many subtle animation and user interface changes.

Android 5.1 for the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition is being rolled out over-the-air. It shouldn’t take too long for this update to go live for all users. When the update is finally available in a region users will automatically receive an update notification on their device.
