Last year Apple announced the third-gen iPad mini which safe to say wasn’t the most impressive hardware refresh from the Cupertino company. Apart from the inclusion of Touch ID, the update wasn’t particularly remarkable. However could that change with the iPad mini 4? We suppose that remains to be seen, but thanks to leaked photos obtained by Nowhereelse.fr, the alleged housing of the tablet has made its way online.

The housing doesn’t really tell us much in terms of hardware specs, but it does hint that Apple could be working on the device. There have been rumors that Apple might discontinue the iPad mini in the wake of the rumored 12-inch iPad Pro, but if these photos are real then we guess the earlier rumors are obviously untrue. It is also hard to tell the size of the iPad mini from these photos, but chances are Apple will be sticking to the same 7.9-inch display as its predecessors.

That being said there are some visible hardware changes, such as the speaker grills which previously offered four rows of 14 holes but will now sport two rows of 10 holes. The lock switch also appears to have been moved and replaced with a tiny hole that is speculated to be a microphone, similar to what Apple did for the iPad Air 2, but other than that it seems that the rest of the design is similar to previous iPad minis.

In fact apart from the rumors regarding the iPad Pro, we have not heard much about what Apple plans to do with the rest of their iPad lineup for 2015. Perhaps it’s a bit too early to tell, but in any case hopefully we will have more information regarding the rest of Apple’s iPads at a later date.
