nikon-d7100-hands-on-review-03When it comes to apps released by camera manufacturers for smartphones, they tend to be pretty similar in the sense that they mostly act as a remote shutter. They also allow the photographer to transfer photos from the camera wirelessly onto their mobile devices for storage and editing.

However according to a report from Nikon Rumors, it seems that both Apple and Nikon are working on a pretty cool app for iOS devices. Now instead of it being your standard camera app, this app will supposedly allow users to add new camera features and special effects from their smartphone to the camera, which obviously needs to be compatible with this.

These new features and filters will apparently be available for purchase within the app, meaning that from time to time we expect that new features and filters will be added. This sounds like an interesting idea as camera filters that are built into the camera itself are limited, so by introducing such a system it could allow photographers to try out and experiment with new filters all the time.

Unfortunately information about the app is a bit scarce at the moment so we have no idea how it will work. There’s also no telling when this alleged secret project will be officially announced, but with WWDC 2015 kicking off next week, perhaps we might hear something about this collaboration then, but try not to get your hopes up just yet.
