cortana-android-beta-releaseBack in March, Microsoft announced that they were planning on releasing Cortana as a standalone app on both iOS and Android devices. They later revealed that the beta version for Android was slated for July and while it already is July, we haven’t heard from Microsoft yet, at least until now.

It would seem that someone got their hands on the beta APK for Cortana and has leaked it online. Now for those who don’t mind getting their hands on the APK (download at your own risk), it is available via APK Mirror, although we suggest that maybe waiting for the official release might be a better idea, especially since the APK might be based on an older beta build of Cortana.

That being said, Microsoft has also released a statement to ZDNet addressing the leak. According to Microsoft’s statement, “In the spirit of the Windows Insider Program, we’re testing the Cortana for Android beta with a limited number of users in the U.S. and China before releasing the beta publicly in the next few weeks.”

It will be interesting to see how Cortana fares on iOS and Android devices. Typically with voice assistants having it integrated with the operating system itself is obviously better, since it will have deeper access to the platform’s features, but for those looking for an alternative, this is one way to go about it.
