ffxivThe thing about running OS X is that sometimes there are developers who don’t make OS X versions of their games, instead choosing to develop for PC instead. However in the case of Square Enix, they have decided to port over Final Fantasy XIV onto the Mac, but it seems that it has run into performance issues, so much so that sales had to be suspended.

Now it seems that the problem here had to do with the game still in the final stages of being optimized for Mac hardware, but unfortunately retailers had already begun selling and shipping the game ahead of its official release. This meant that Mac gamers had no idea if their computers could run the game and could only hope that it would, which unfortunately resulted in a bit of a disaster.

Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida has since apologized for the problems personally, “While the development and operations teams, as well as our entire company, were involved in this mistake, it was I who ultimately made the decision to release the Mac version under these circumstances and therefore bear sole responsibility, and I sincerely apologise to you all.”

Mac gamers who are seeking a refund will be able to do so if you had bought the game via Square Enix’s online store. However if you have bought it from a third-party retailer, you will have to go through them to get your refund.
