Apple is reportedly in talks to launch a phone service of its own, it’s mobile virtual network operator service is expected to be offered in Europe and the United States. The company is said to be considering launching such a service in the U.S. but is also believed to be in talks with telecom companies in Europe for launching the service across the pond as well.

MVNOs are basically virtual carrier networks that don’t own their own infrastructure, rather they lease space from established carriers and then sell it directly to customers through various plans.

Business Insider reports that Apple’s MVNO will require users to pay the company directly for data, texts and calls and the company will provide them with everything that they used to get from their carrier with the Apple SIM being able to switch between carriers to provide the best service.

The scribe goes on to say that Apple is looking at the long-term prospects of launching its MVNO so it’s unlikely that the service will be rolled out soon, it may take the company at least five years to fully launch the service.

Apple would be following Google’s lead in this space which has already launched a MVNO under the Project Fi name, though it only provides service to Nexus 6 owners in the United States for now.
