We have known for a while now that Microsoft is developing Cortana for Android and just last month an early version of the app was leaked, today Microsoft has officially released Cortana for Android beta. Anyone can download and install the app on their Android device and proceed to use Redmond’s virtual private assistant, the app even has the ability to replace Google Now as the default assistant when the Android home button is pressed on a device.
Cortana for Android is capable of doing most things that Cortana does on PC or on a Windows Phone such as setting and getting reminders, searching the web on the fly, tracking important information such as flight details and completing tasks across all devices.
The company says that since it launched the closed beta several improvements have been made to the app, the most notable being the ability to set Cortana as the destination for the home button press on an Android device.
Several features such as invoking Cortana hands-free by saying “Hey Cortana” to open apps or toggle settings works only on Windows for now but Microsoft promises to continue making improvements and add more features over time.
