op2_invites_2mWhile the OnePlus 2 has yet to be released outside of China, it looks like interest in the handset is mounting. Last week we reported that the number of users reserving an invite crossed the 1 million mark and it looks like this week, that number has skyrocketed to a whopping 2.5 million at this time of writing.

This means that if you didn’t reserve early, you could find yourself waiting quite a while before you receive your invite to purchase the handset. However OnePlus is giving users a way to get ahead of the competition. For starters if users sign up using your email as a referral, you get to jump ahead in the line.

The company has also started auctioning off some invites on eBay where the proceeds will go to a good cause, and where you will also basically get an invite to buy the OnePlus 2 handset. In fact the long time had even driven one customer to desperate measures where he “hacked” the invite system by exploiting a system flaw, thus allowing him to cut ahead of everyone else.

This has since been fixed so like we said, the only methods left to you guys is either by referrals or by buying an invite on eBay. Of course at the end of the day those 2.5 million reservations might not translate to actual sales since we’re sure along the way, some customers might change their minds, but for now it looks like the handset has garnered a fair bit of interest.
