Microsoft has confirmed that Cortana is coming to Xbox One but the feature won’t be immediately released for all console owners, instead later this year it will be first made available to members of the Xbox preview program before the feature is ready for public consumption. However it appears that Cortana for Xbox One has gone live a bit early for some preview members even though they aren’t supposed to receive this feature until later this year.

Some Xbox One owners who are members of the preview program have discovered that Cortana can be enabled in the latest beta release by opening the settings panel, going up and pressing the A button repeatedly a few times.

Cortana is then activated and snapped to the side of the app or game that’s already open, since the latest preview build brings software powered by Windows 10 the Cortana experience feels largely the same.

The virtual private assistant floats at the top and picks up voice commands when spoken with the “Hey, Cortana” phrase. Only basic functionality appears to be working right now but when the feature is officially released it will be able to invite friends to parties and do much more like providing access to a user’s calendar appointments, news and other relevant information.
