mastercard london undergroundSo far Apple Pay has been supported by pretty much all the major credit card issuing companies like Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Now if you are as MasterCard holder and you’re living in the UK, you are in luck as MasterCard has recently announced a special promotion that basically gives you free rides via London’s Underground as long as you have linked your MasterCard to Apple Pay.

However note that this isn’t a free-rides-forever kind of deal, and that there are several catches you need to be made aware of. For starters the free rides are only applicable on Mondays, hence the name “Fare Free Mondays”. This promotion also pretty much lasts for four weeks which actually started yesterday (Monday in the UK).

The next date is on the 30th of November, followed by the 7th of December, and the last date that it will conclude is the 14th of December. According to MasteCard, “The offer entitles cardholders to receive a refund against their travel costs made with a MasterCard card with Apple Pay on London Buses, London Underground, London Trams, Docklands Light Railway, London Overground, TfL Rail, Emirates Air Line, and most National Rail services in London (where a yellow card reader is present) to a maximum value of £27.90 per cardholder, per Promotional Period. The offer is as stated and nothing else is included.”

Also take note of the £27.90 refund, which is pretty much the max that you can claim. Anything more than that and you will be charged for the difference, but if you’re not a particularly heavy user of public transport, then this deal sounds like a pretty good one.
