android-6.0-marshmallow

About a fortnight back Mo Versi of HTC had confirmed via Twitter that the company will release Marshmallow for a couple of its handsets before the year ends, and it was later confirmed that the HTC One M9 and the unlocked HTC One A9 would receive said update. The company has followed through on its promise and has now started rolling out Android 6.0 for the unlocked One M9 and Android 6.0.1 for unlocked One A9.

It’s good that HTC is finally sending out the latest iteration of Android for the One M9 considering the fact that its predecessor has already received said update at the beginning of December. That certainly didn’t sit too well with One M9 owners seeing as how they own the latest flagship which should have priority when it comes to major updates.

Pay extra attention to the word “unlocked” because the update is not being released for carrier branded versions of these handsets. That’s because carriers first put the updates through tests and what not before they’re released to end users, this means users have to wait for a few weeks even after the OEM has released the update.

There are no such steps with unlocked handsets, HTC sends the update directly to unlocked handsets, and they’re able to update right away. So you’re only in luck today if you own an unlocked version of the HTC One M9, if not, then you will have to continue waiting for the rest of us.

HTC’s Mo Versi says that it will take about 24 hours for this roll out to complete so even if you have an unlocked version and haven’t received Marshmallow yet, a little patience will do you good.
