Microsoft has done nothing to hint that it’s interesting in launching a new variant of the Xbox One, but apparently the rumor mill believes that in 2016 the company might launch a smaller Xbox One that will only be for downloadable games. It has been rumored in the past that such a mini-console of sorts might be released but one hasn’t arrived as yet, Petri now reports that internal sources from Microsoft have revealed that the company is considering plans for an Xbox One that will only be for Windows Store games and would compete against the likes of Apple TV.

Rumors about such a device did come up prior to the launch of the Xbox One a couple of years ago, that product never arrived, but if this one does it’s not expected to be launched before the second half of 2016 and may be priced much lower than the Xbox One.

Given that there has been no indication from Microsoft as yet it’s a bit hard to believe at this point if the company really is considering launching a mini-console, one that would only work with downloadable games.

We’ll have to wait and see how this will play out, one can’t really be too sure about rumors from unofficial sources, but there’s always the odd chance that there might be some truth to the rumor. Keep your fingers crossed if this console peaks your interest.
