For the longest time ever, WhatsApp did not have voice calling capabilities. It was an odd choice given that there were many other messenger platforms such as LINE, Skype, Viber, Facebook Messenger, and more that already offered regular instant messaging along with voice (and video) calling.

However the feature was eventually launched so we guess the natural progression would be video calling, right? Thanks to a recently leaked set of screenshots from (via IBT), it certainly seems to suggest that video calling capabilities could soon be making its way onto the WhatsApp messaging platform.

The screenshot above shows the iOS version of the app, but presumably the feature will arrive on Android and other platforms as well. It also appears to work pretty much the same way as you might expect from video calling, where a small screen will show you your own face (or whatever the camera’s pointing at), while the main window will show the other person you’re calling.

Unfortunately no word on when this feature will arrive, but given that it was spotted in the latest build of WhatsApp (v2.12.16.2), it is possible that the next major update of WhatsApp should bring this feature to users, whenever that will be so do keep an eye out for it, especially if you’re a heavy WhatsApp user and video calling is your thing.
