Apple-Eardpods-LightningAccording to the iPhone 7 rumors, word on the street has it that Apple could be thinking about ditching the headphone port on the handset. We’re not sure what’s the reason behind this, but presumably the lack of a headphone port could allow Apple to create a thinner device, or maybe even include a second set of speakers.

So what does this mean for Apple’s bundled EarPods? Are we going to get wireless Bluetooth options? Unfortunately that might not be happening, thanks to a recently leaked photo that shows what appears to be Apple’s EarPods with a Lightning connector on them. The headphones don’t look any different which we guess is possible since there really is no need to redesign them.

However that doesn’t mean that the photo is real. It isn’t too difficult to photoshop the image above since clipping out the 3.5mm plug and swapping it with a Lightning connector probably could be done in minutes, so as with all leaks and rumors, it’s probably best taken with a grain of salt for now.

At the same time the rumors of Apple ditching the headphone port is persisting and we guess the cheapest way to include headphones would be to use Lightning versus Bluetooth. There are several Lightning headphones at the moment but we’re guessing that at the start, many users probably won’t be too happy about the lack of compatibility and options.
