bb-passport-whiteIf you are still using a BlackBerry device that runs on BB OS, you might want to take note that come 30th of June, PayPal will be shutting down its BlackBerry app. This is according to an announcement made by the company on their blog in which they reveal that this will affect the Amazon Fire Phone as well.

According to PayPal, “If you are an Amazon Fire or Blackberry user, we will be discontinuing the PayPal app on June 30, after which you will no longer be able to use the app.” They note that these users can still access PayPal via the mobile web version of their website, and BlackBerry users can continue to send and receive payments via PayPal through the BBM platform.

They add, “It was a difficult decision to no longer support the PayPal app on these mobile platforms, but we believe it’s the right thing to ensure we are investing our resources in creating the very best experiences for our customers. We remain committed to partnering with mobile device providers, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.”

We guess this is rather disappointing, but with BlackBerry seeing some success by going Android, moving forward future BlackBerry handsets will be powered by Android so users can always download the Android version of the app if they want. Last we heard, BlackBerry has at least two more Android handsets in the works.
